November Patriots
Published in Paperback by UnderCover Press (20 November, 1998)
Authors: Larry Hancock, Constance Kritzberg, and John Fries

I felt like an eyewitness to those events...
For those of us old enough to recall the events and emotions of 11/22/63 there is a timelessness to them; they don't abate, they don't change. But for those of us not in Dallas that day, there is a sense of separation from the events. IMHO, "November Patriots" bridges that gap. I heartily recommend it.

This is THE best novel on the JFK assassination mystery!
"November Patriots" is a rare achievement: the successful blending of fact with fiction (a.k.a. informed speculation with the names changed to protect the guilty). The book is divided into two parts: "November Patriots" the novel and "Full Disclosure" the facts. The novel entertains and the facts inform, unlike many books on this subject that tend to be a bit too dry and "scholarly" for the average perosn to grasp. Buy it! :-)

Raising Adults: Getting Kids Ready for the Real World
Published in Paperback by Pinon Press (October, 1999)
Author: Jim Hancock
Average review score:

Purposeful Parenting
As a college chaplain, I have the opportunity to see highly functioning, effective adolescents and young adults. I also happen to see those who are nowhere near ready to deal with the real world. Often it is their family life which has made the difference. This book is one of the best at assisting parents in making their efforts purposeful while encouraging us to ease up on the constant anxiety about doing the "worst wrong thing." As both a parent and a facilitator of parenting workshops, I enthusiastically recommend this book as one of the best resources available.

I heard the author on the radio...
I heard the author of this book (Jim Hancock) interviewed on the radio. Much of what he said there is the same as in his book. As a professional educator (I teach high school), I can heartily endorse this book. I would say that it should, however, be read by parents of small children. By high school, it can be too late to implement some of his ideas, although parents of high school students can also benefit from reading this book, because other of his ideas can still be useful.

The Roads of the Roma; a PEN anthology of Gypsy writers (Threatened Literature Series (PEN American Center))
Published in Paperback by University of Hertfordshire Press (October, 1998)
Authors: Ian Hancock, Rajko Djuric, and Siobhan Dowd
Average review score:

Roma in their own voice
For centuries, many voices have spoken for the Roma, as often as not with ill will. In this magnificent collection, the Roma speak with a vibrant voice all their own.

The book opens with a brilliant, if all-too-brief, introduction to Roma history by Dr. Ian Hancock, a Professor of Romany Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, who has made the study of the Rom migration, enslavement, literature, art and political life and sociology his life's work.

The 44 poems that follow are ordered along a time line broken into sections and beginning with the Roma's departure from India with the first Ghaznavid raids in 997.

Twenty-nine contemporary Romany poets, including editors Rajko Djuric, Siobhan Dowd and Dr. Hancock, created most pieces. But no collection of Rom poets would be complete without work from the renowned Papusza (Poland, c. 1910-1987) or Leksa Manus (Latvia, 1942-1997), each of whose work is also represented. The title comes from Manus' searing 38-line poem of the same name, which traces the countries and places the people have traveled after opening with these lines:

"Each night, my God, before I close my eyes,

I see before me the roads of the Roma.

But where, my God, is the long lost road,

The one true road, the first one traveled?"

Roughly half the works were written in Romani, but according to Hancock seven Rom translators--Dowd, Burton Bollag, Tom Fugalli, Ian MacAndless, Minna Proctor, Sinead ni Shuinear and Anika Weiss--have remained faithful to the feel, heart and soul of the original works. I can believe it.

Listen to these lines from Djura Makhotin's poem, "Give me a string to play on":

"Oh my life is a silver mirror/The years are its frame.

"I cannot see the time ahead/ And what has passed I have forgotten./In youth it seems every day is long,/When one is older a year is like the breadth of a finger./I am not guilty but I know the truth,/The road of life leads me./I am not sad, I swear an oath, give me a string to play on."

After hearing work from this book at a reading, I rushed to buy this book. You should too. Alyssa A. Lappen

The Roma Writing About Roma
This book is a treasure not to be hidden away on a bookseller's Web page, but one to be purchased and read by all who care about ideas expressed by voices formerly silenced, but now being heard. The Romani voice has always existed, but when have we, the general public, had the opportunity to hear what it has been saying? This book gives us that chance, and what an expressive voice it is! The authors speak with eloquence and their messages cannot be missed. These are writings by Roma, not those of the non-Roma writing about them. Surely more books in English by Romani authors will follow this one. Just as surely, they will help dispel the myths and stereotypes which have been created about the Roma over the long centuries. Included in this book is an interesting introduction which deals mostly with the history of the Romani people, also written by a Rom. For those of you who care about the "feel" and "look" of a book, let me say that I found them to be a perfect fit for the contents of this book and do not detract in any way. This is a gem to be read and reread.

The Silicon Valley Edge: A Habitat for Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Published in Paperback by Stanford Univ Pr (T) (November, 2000)
Authors: Chong-Moon Lee, William F. Miller, Marguerite Gong Hancock, and Henry S. Rowen
Average review score:

Excellent guidebook to Silicon Valley
This is an excellent book to describe all thinkable crosssections of Silicon Valley through interviews in the social science methods and through writing by prominent figures in Silicon Valley. The only drawback I found is that the book has too rich contents for a reader to read through casually. I strongly recommend this book to those serious readers who are engaged in Silicon Valley, associated with venture businesses, interested in mechanisms and histories of Silicon Valley, or interested in business models.
The book has a big reference table to illustrate how different Silicon Valley entrepreneurs are from small business owners and traditional entrepreneurs, and describes four distinct types of entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley. The book also enumerates ten reasons why Silicon Valley has been prosperous.
This is really a good book for a reader to learn what Silicon Valley is like.

A Fantastic Book with Intensive Stuffs
Practically useful for entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and professionals.

Squaring the Circle (Circle of Light, Book 4)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Warner Books> C/o Little Br (01 January, 1977)
Author: Niel Hancock
Average review score:

At Long Last, The Conclusion Everyone Deserves.
"Squaring the Circle" is set in a climatic atmosphere and brings together many of the characters and events from the first three books in "The Circle of Light" series together in the ultimate confrontation between the Forces of Light and the Darkness of Queen Dorini. Bear, Dwarf, and Otter must make their final stand against Dorini themselves with the fate of Atlanton Earth in the balance. Though, they won't face her alone, because they've found allies among Elves, Dwarves, Animals, and powerful wizards like Greyfax Grimwald and Faragon Fairingay, willing to help them defeat the destructive Dorini once and for all. The final battles and encounters are enchanting and full of magic and mystery. Many friends are reunited and many enemies are brought to justice as well. The conclusion is awesome, though a little sad in my opinion, but it's expected at the end of a such a great series. Please read these as well as the whole series, because even if it's not your favorite series, it will be very hard to forget!

Volume 4; worthy conclusion
Volume four takes the heroes through more fights and battles to a final showdown with the villains and a resolution of what they've been fighting for. A worthy conclusion to a great philosophic adventure.

A storehouse of both history and horicultural practices
I am affiliated with a large strawberry grower and have had more than a passing acquaintance with Victor Voth. Mr. Handcock's work is so rich in strawberry history, horticulture and other useful information that I have been unable to put it down. I recommend it to Grower and shipper/packers alike for facinating reading...

Great Strawberry Book
Jim Hancock has done a great job with this book. Covers everything you need to know about strawberry production etc...

Tru64 UNIX File System Administration Handbook
Published in Paperback by Digital Press (24 November, 2000)
Author: Steven M. Hancock
Average review score:

Unix from the bottom up
I have completed reviewing this publication and the only regret is it will not fit in my back pocket. This book is a real nuts & bolts to Tru64 problems/solutions that are not contained in other material. I have always wished for a referance to solve a problem that removed the guessing or waiting for a support resource to call back. This provides REAL problems and REAL solutions. Steve has provided an excellent handbook for those who do everyday admin. The AdvFS and LSM chapters are the best I have seen. I recommend this book to every one who had a chance to work with Tru64.

A must for Tru64 Admins
This book not only covers the basics, but hits on some of the undocumented (until now) utilities of Compaq's Tru64 UNIX. Some of the information in the book is only obtainable by purchasing Compaq's superb, but expensive, support. I waited a year for this book, and it was well worth it! If you maintain systems that must be on-line 24 X 7 X 365, then you need this book.

Outstanding Book! " Stephen King Watch Out!"
This is a great book! I was hooked from the beginning until the end. The characters came alive as I read and their pain and curiosity became mine. As Brian and his team live their day to day lives with all of their trials and tribulations at and surrounding Englewood Foundation you are kept on the edge to find out what happens next. A-21 has everything you want in a suspense/horror story. Tim Hancock, my congratualtions on a job well done! I can't wait until your next book is available to the public. Keep up the good work. I recommend this book highly.

Art from Paper: How to Make 25 Original Paper Models
Published in Hardcover by Outlet (November, 1987)
Authors: D. Hancock and Outlet
Average review score:

Wonderful Instructional Book
This book is one of the best resources I have found for paper sculpture. There are projects ranging from a beginner's level to an advanced level. The book has the patterns with every project on grids for easy resizing. The book also lists the tools and papers needed very adequately. Some of the projects in the book are useful as well as decorative. I highly reccomend this book to a beginner or someone more advanced who is looking for ideas.

Basic Criminal Procedure (Black Letter Series)
Published in Paperback by West Information Pub Group (April, 1994)
Authors: Stephen A. Saltzburg, Catherine Hancock, and Daniel J. Capra
Average review score:

An outstanding study aid for any law student taking Crim Pro
This book is an exceptional outline of the law concerning the 4th, 5th and 6th amendments. It is well organized and completely thorough. While I would never suggest to a law student that they ignore reading all of the assigned cases in a particular class; this outline is so well done that you could rely upon it almost exclusively in your study preparation and still receive a good grade. I would also recommend this book to police officers, paralegals, or anyone else who needs to learn the intricate details of the law of search and seizure, confessions and the right to counsel. As a former student of Professor Capra, I was not suprised at the quality of this work.
